Individual/Family

There are two ways to obtain health insurance. One way is to get a subsidy from the government marketplace. The other is from private health plans, without a subsidy from the government.

There are specific enrollment timelines that must be adhered to when purchasing your health insurance. They are:

  1. Annual Election Period (AEP): November 1st to December 15th. During this enrollment period a person can make changes to their health plan choice for the next plan year. At this time of the year you are allowed to investigate other options to your existing health insurance.

  1. Special Election Period (SEP): December 16th to November 30th. During this election period a person can only make changes to their existing health plan due to specific reasons. These reasons include but are not limited to:

  • involuntary loss of existing coverage
  • birth/adoption of a child
  • marriage
  • divorce
  • change in residency
  • prior to electing COBRA coverage. (If COBRA has been elected you will be unable to cancel the policy unless it is during the annual election period.)

No matter what your needs are for you and your family, Cowles Insurance Services is here to help you make the right decision.
